Here is a stitches glossary for you to refer to. It basically gives you an explanation as to how to carry out each stitch. Hope it helps. I have written it in alphabetical order, so hopefully you will find the stitch you are looking for easily. I will keep adding to it as much as I can. There are lots more to go on here and if you are unsure of a stitch, just message me and I will endeavour to explain it to you.
Ok so here we go …Â
Cabbage Patch Stitch – I love this stitch, it looks like its a row of cabbages in a field. It’s worked in 2 rows. So to create this stitch, chain 3 (acts as 1tr)Â *miss 3 stitches then work 4tr in the next stitch.* Repeat this until the end of the row where you will miss the second to last stitch and then work 1tr in the last stitch. For the second row turn your work, chain 3 (acts as 1tr) miss 1 stitch, then *miss 3 more stitches and work 1tr in the next stitch.* Repeat ** across the second row ending with 1tr in the top of the chain 3 stitches. This completes the cabbage patch stitch.
Cable Stitch (Cable st) – This is a stitch where you work 1tr across other stitches. So start off by missing a stitch and then working 1tr into the next 3 stitches. Then put your yarn over your hook and insert the hook into 4 stitches to the right (so back on yourself) into the dc stitch that you missed. Then yarn over your hook and pull back through (3 loops.) Then finish off the tr as normal. So yarn over your hook and pull through the first two loops, then yarn over your hook and pull through the last 2 loops.
Chain (ch) – To make a chain, place the yarn over the hook then pull it through the loop on your hook.
Cluster (Cl) – Â A cluster is a group of stitches joined together at the top. So for example a 5treble cluster – work 5 treble stitches but for each stitch only work it to the last ‘yarn over hook and pull through’. Â So you should have 5 loops on your hook from the trebles and 1 loop from the previous stitch. Then yarn over your hook again and pull through all the loops on your hook. This leaves one loop on your hook. This finishes the cluster stitch. This is a picture of the back of a spot stitch, which is a cluster stitch that uses 5 trebles together.
Crossbill – This is where you work  2Ctr and then 1tr into the next stitch. So work two Crossed Trebles (2Ctr) – Miss two stitches, work 1tr in the next stitch, then chain 1 and work 1tr in the first of the 2 missed stitches. (Work this last stitch back over the last tr stitch made.) Now work 1tr into the next stitch to finish the crossbill stitch.
Double Crochet (dc) – Insert the hook through the stitch, front to back, then yarn over hook and pull back through stitch. You will have two loops on your hook. Then yarn over your hook and pull through both loops.
Double Crochet Decrease (2dctog) – This is where you crochet two stitches together to decrease the amount of stitches in the round. So insert the hook through the front of the first stitch only (the front V) and then insert again through the front of the second stitch (the front V). See the photo below. Now yarn over your hook and pull it back through both stitches, so you will then have 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over your hook again and pull through both loops. And there is your 2dctog. (Basically 2 double crochet stitches crocheted together.)
Double treble (dtr) – A double treble is quite a tall stitch. So yarn over hook twice, insert hook through the stitch/space and then yarn over hook again. Now pull the yarn through the stitch. There will now be 4 loops on the hook. Now place the yarn over the hook and pull through the first 2 loops. Then yarn over the hook again and pull through the next two loops. Haha, now place the yarn over the hook again and pull through the last 2 loops. Phew! It’s a bit of a long process, but a lovely stitch with the height that it gives.
Extended Double Crochet (exdc) – Ok so insert you hook through the stitch, wrap your yarn around your hook and pull through the stitch, now yarn around your hook and pull through the first loop only. (2 loops) Now wrap your yarn around your hook and pull it through both the loops. So you now have 1 loop left on your hook.
Grannie Stitch – This is a very simple stitch, so basically work 3 trebles together in the same space. Then repeat with 3 more treble so in the next space. It’s a quick and easy stitch to do and one that a lot of people learn with.
Half treble (htr) – A half treble crochet is basically one less movement than a treble. So yarn over hook, insert through space/stitch, yarn over hook, pull back through space/stitch. There should be 3 loops on your hook. Then yarn over hook and pull through all 3 loops.
Popcorn (rp) – So chain 1, then work 6tr stitches all in the next dc stitch 2 rows below. Then remove your hook from the loop and reinsert it back into the chain 1 space worked before the 6tr stitches. Then collect up the loop from the last tr stitch and pull through to complete the raised popcorn stitch.
Puff Stitch (Pf) – A puff stitch is usually a group of half treble crochet stitches joined at the top and the bottom. So for a 3 half treble puff (Htr3tog) *wrap your yarn around your hook, insert where the pattern indicates, yarn over your hook and pull through.* Repeat this ** 2 more times in the same place. This will give you 7 loops on your hook. Now wrap your yarn round your hook again and pull through all the loops on your hook. Now work a chain stitch the complete the puff stitch.
Slip stitch (ss) – This is where there is no height to the stitch. It’s usually used to join rounds. So insert the hook into the front of the stitch you are joining to. This is usually the first stitch you made in that round/row. So yarn over hook and pull through that first stitch then also through the loop on your hook.
Small Mesh (sm) – This is a very simple stitch and chain 1, miss a stitch and work 1tr in the next stitch.
Spot Stitch – So start off by chaining 1, then miss 1 dc stitch and work 5 treble stitches but for each stitch only work it to the last ‘yarn over hook and pull through’. (This is classed as 5trtog.)  So you should have 5 loops on your hook from the trebles and 1 loop from the previous stitch. Then yarn over your hook again and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. This leaves one loop on your hook. Now work 1dc in the next 3 stitches. Then repeat, so *5trtog in the next stitch, then 1dc in the next 3 stitches.* And there you have your spot stitch.
Treble (tr) – To make a treble crochet, firstly yarn over your hook, insert through space/stitch, yarn over your hook, pull back through space/stitch. There should now be 3 loops on your hook. Then yarn over hook and pull through the first two loops, yarn over hook and pull through the last two loops.
Treble 5 together (tr5tog) – *Yarn over your hook, insert into the stitch, yarn over your hook and pull through. Yarn over your hook and pull through the 2 loops.* Repeat ** 5 times. (6 loops) Now yarn over your hook and pull through the first 5 loops on the hook, then yarn over your hook and pull through the last 2 loops on you hook. This completes the tr5tog or otherwise known as a large cluster.
Two Crossed Trebles (2Ctr) – Miss two stitches, work 1tr in the next stitch, then chain 1 and work 1tr in the first of the 2 missed stitches. (Work this last stitch back over the last tr stitch made.)
