Elma the Elephant

First Charity PDF Pattern has landed!

Ekk, I am so excited!!

Here she is…

My very first Downloadable Charity PDF Pattern.

Meet Elma the Elephant. She is the most kind & thoughtful little elephant you will ever meet. She is always baking treats for her little friends and is never far away from a cuppa with a chum. Her favourite thing to do is to sit down & write a good story. You never know, you might find one day, that she is a published author, with many children’s books to her name. If you ever get your hands on one of them, you will be in for a real treat.

I am so excited to be starting PipsRainbow’s new chapter. I am really hoping to bring you lots of lovely squishy crochet PDF Patterns, in exchange for a few pennies for charity. My very first charity and pattern are rather close to my heart.

Here’s why…

Six years ago, my daughter started school and made friends with a very brave little girl who had lost her little brother in a traffic accident that summer. Since then, both her and her family have had to come to terms with their tragic loss and the bravery they have shown, has blown me away. During this time, there has been a very special charity called Child Bereavement UK, that has been there through it all and has supported them and helped them to rebuild their lives.

Child Bereavement UK help not only the parents but children as well, to deal with their grief. They also provide training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families. Their support has been invaluable to my daughter’s friend and her family and in turn they have worked hard to raise thousands of pounds for this incredible charity.

Each year one of my little crocheted creations has been entered into their infamous charity silent auction at their annual quiz & I am so happy that it tends to raise over a hundred pounds each time. This year it was Elma the Elephant, so I just couldn’t resist sharing her pattern with you all, in the hope that we can raise some more money for Child Bereavement UK.

I would be truly humbled for any of you who are downloading my Elma pattern, to donate to this incredible charity. So that we can continue to raise money and allow them to carry on providing the invaluable support to so many families across the country.

Please give what you can, but I think the recommended donation would be around the £5 mark or higher if you are able to.

Thank you so much in advance for your help in supporting this incredible charity.

Let’s see how much we can raise for them.

This little elephant is a great pattern for any crochet lovers or beginners alike. It uses the simple Amigurimi method of crocheting in the round and is easy to follow. Don’t forget you can make Elma in two different sizes. I made the Quiz Elephant using Aran weight wool and a 5.5mm crochet hook, but the main PDF pattern, the grey elephant is made with DK weight yarn with a 3mm crochet hook.

Hope you enjoy it.

Happy hooking.

Sometimes your rainbow needs to point in a different direction.

Well hello my lovely ones. How are we all? It’s rather cold and wet here. Definitely a day to hide under a blanket if you can. I think with a mix of school runs, dog walks and appointments, I have looked like a drowned rat all day.

Heyho, onward and upward. It’s nearly the weekend and better still – half term!! Yippee! My two are absolutely shattered, so are needing a well earned chill and a spot of MaMa love for a week me thinks. Bless them. I always think the autumn term is a long one.

Let’s just hope the weather gets better. There is one thing I do know about this weather… this little lady does not like the rain! 😂 Oh dear. I know how she feels. Bless her.

So in my madness of this year and the fact that my day to day admin seems to have gone completely out of the window at the moment. I have completely forgotten to acknowledge and celebrate PipsRainbow’s 5 Year Birthday!! Whoops. Can’t quite believe I have done that. 5 years, wow. It’s definitely been a full packed 5 years. Maybe that is why there is a slight change and switch in PipsRainbow’s Ride, hmmm. Who knows. But change is a foot…

Now down to business…

As some of you know, I have been toying with my little PipsRainbow world and wondering which road to take it down. As a designer, there are so many possibilities now, with many platforms that you can jump on and off with all your creations, as you please. The world is your oyster as it were. Which is great. I love that designers are being able to share and inspire others to follow in their footsteps. My little Smiles pdf pattern has been on ravelry for a few months now and has had a great start into the world. So pleased that it is reaching far and beyond. I wonder how many have been made?

But for me, I think it is time for PipsRainbow to have a little change of direction. A new beginning in this rather uncertain world that we live in. When I first started the PipsRainbow world, my main aim was to teach and to inspire others to have a go and grow that inner crocheter from within them. And going forward, this will always be my mission. PipsRainbow will still hold lots of tutorials and the step by step patterns, that are easy to follow. I endeavour to create even more video tutorials, particularly for left handed crocheters. I am starting my little crochet group up again at school, so I had better get practising with my left hand. And of course lots more crocheting fun.

Now for the exciting bit…

Up until now, my patterns have been written on my blog, and many will stay like this. But others will come in the form of a downloadable PDF file. Now some of these will be free, like my Smiles pattern. These will be found on here and on my Ravelry page. So keep an eye out for those. But for the others, you will be able to download these in the form of a downloadable PDF File, but for a small donation to a charity. This will come in the form of a link to a Just Giving page for the chosen charity. I just thought that it’s just a few pennies to donate, in exchange for a little crochet pattern. What do you think? In this crazy world at the moment, many of the charities are really struggling for fundraising, so I just thought this is a great and easy way of us little crocheters and knitters to give a little something. I hope you agree.

I am super excited by PipsRainbow’s new little direction. I cant wait to get designing new little squishy creations for you.

Watch out for the first Downloadable Pattern – it will be landing very soon. Both charity and pattern are very close to my heart, so it seems like the best one to start with.

Well keep dry and warm chaps.

Happy hooking.
